MATT JONES CHANNELLED Phil Mickelson at the US PGA Championship on Saturday, playing a shot out of a hospitality tent on the front nine.
Jones, who reached the turn of his third round with a one-shot lead, saw his tee shot land one level up on the ninth hole, however the Australian – after weighing up his options – wowed the Whistling Straits crowd with an aggressive stroke that only narrowly missed finding the green.

Mickelson famously played out of a hospitality tent at The Barclays in 2014. While Jones (one under through nine) made bogey, what was a three-shot lead was cut as Tony Finau (four under through nine) drew level.
South Africa’s Branden Grace chipped in from a bunker at 18 to join Jones and Finau on 12 under, rounding out a brilliant 64. Jason Day’s front nine scoring was blighted by two bogeys as he reached the turn at one under, but he went on to make it a four-way tie for the lead.
Others making runs into the top five were Martin Kaymer (through 17) – the 2010 champion moving to seven under for the day with five back-nine birdies. Billy Horschel (through 13) was at five under for the day, and could have been even better placed after narrowly missing birdie putts on 13 and 14.
Justin Rose was two-under through nine – the Englishman missing an eagle putt on 10 to try and join the leaders.
Masters and U.S. Open champion Jordan Spieth was three under through 12 – opening his day with a birdie but followed with nine straight pars. Spieth then made back-to-back birdies to launch a run.
