AS THEIR APPOINTMENT as Ireland’s new managerial team was confirmed, Roy Keane and Martin O’Neill were in excited mood as they fronted UTV’s Champions League coverage.
Asked about the prospect of working alongside Keane, O’Neill said:
“Personally speaking I think it’ll be great for me, but more importantly I think it will be great for the Republic of Ireland.”

He later joked that the duo would make for a mean partnership when they get to work in FAI tracksuits.
“I think I’m the bad cop and I think he’s the bad, bad cop. “We’re excited by it. It looks like we’ve got something to be going forward with. I’m looking forward to it. It’s great.”
Keane was equally pleased as he stood pitch-side in San Sebastien, though he pointed out that his outward demeanour might not suggest it.
“Fantastic news,” Keane said on UTV. “I’m honoured that Martin’s asked me to go and help him with the team.
“I’m very excited – I mightn’t look it, but I am -I’m looking forward to working with Martin.”
