UNDER-FIRE EVERTON boss Roberto Martinez has insisted that his conversation with a Toffees fan was not confrontational.

Martinez was filmed speaking to a supporter in the stands as he attended an U21 match between Everton and Chelsea on Monday night.

The footage has since been distributed on social media but Martinez’s exchange is not audible.

The Spaniard is under pressure with Everton currently 14th in the Premier League having picked up just four points from their last six games.

“It is no such thing as a confrontation,” Martinez told a press conference on Tuesday.

I always want to know what the fans feel, and I always respect a fan who supports our football club who has got a genuine interest in the club and the passion that a fan has is something that we share altogether.

“Of course we are disappointed. We are as disappointed as the fans are and all we need to do is to be really close together to use each other’s strengths to finish the season really strongly.

“We will never look away from a fan’s opinion. If I have an opportunity to share a few moments with a fan, I have always done that throughout my career. It is very, very important to know how the fans feel.”
