O'Neill wants managerial return, but no contact made by FAI

The Northern Irishman says John Delaney has yet to pick up the phone.

MARTIN O’NEILL HAS revealed that the FAI has yet to get in touch with him about the prospect of taking over as Ireland manager.

The 61-year-old, whose last job in football ended disappointingly when he was sacked by Sunderland back in March, is one of the leading candidates to replace Giovanni Trapattoni.

And while the former Northern Ireland international says he is ready to get back into the hotseat, he insists there has been no approach from FAI officials.

“Since late March I have had time to reflect on things,” he told Clive Woodward on BBC Radio 5 Live.

“I don’t want to leave it in the manner it was left at Sunderland. I’m ready to go.”

I’ve had no contact whatsoever with anybody from the Irish FA (FAI) at this moment and there’s nothing more I can say about it.”
