MANCHESTER CITY DEFENDER Martin Demichelis has avoided a ban but has been fined a total of £22,058 by the Football Association after accepting a charge of placing 29 bets on football matches between 22 January and 15 February this year.
Demichelis is believed not to have bet on any matches he was involved in but FA rules state that players and coaches are prohibited from betting on any football activity worldwide.
The FA has also warned the 35-year-old Argentina defender over his future conduct.
Cameron Jerome, Dan Gosling and Andros Townsend have all been fined in the past couple of seasons for similar offences with Townsend also banned for four months, with three of those months suspended.

It’s a stupid rule that players aren’t allowed bet on games they have no influence over.
They’re forbidden from having any sort of fun our normal life
In fairness they could have some kind of insider knowledge from former colleagues or international teammates even if the game is in a different league.
I wonder how many people will say Fair Play?!
Only you so far.
Let’s face it if a footballer wants to bet on matches involving his club or not he can easily do so. And I’m sure it happens regularly the rule can’t even be enforced properly.
