Liverpool confident of bringing Mario Gotze to Anfield on cut-price deal

The German midfielder has hinted he will leave Bayern Munich this summer.

LIVERPOOL ARE EDGING closer to completing the marquee signing of German international Mario Gotze, according to widespread reports this morning.

The Bayern Munich midfielder has been on the Premier League club’s radar for the last 12 months and it now appears Gotze is keen on working with Jurgen Klopp again.

The 23-year-old, who scored the winner in the 2014 World Cup final, worked under Klopp at Borussia Dortmund before moving to Bayern three years ago.

With just one year left on his contract at the Allianz Arena, the Reds are confident of bringing Gotze to Anfield on a cut-price deal.

Gotze’s burgeoning career has stalled at Bayern and has made just 12 appearances for the club this season.

The attacking midfielder flourished under Klopp at Dortmund as he played an integral role in the club’s two Bundesliga title wins as well as their journey to the 2013 Champions League final.

Gotze is contracted in Bavaria until 2017 but has struggled to force his way into the reckoning this season with new arrivals Douglas Costa and Arturo Vidal ahead of him in the pecking order.
