Germany conceded a comical own goal in their defeat to the US

Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Benedikt Howedes – hold your heads in shame.

IRELAND’S GROUP C opponents Germany suffered a rare 4-3 loss at the hands of the US at the RFK Stadium last night and were left more than a little embarrassed about how they conceded one of the goals.

After Jozy Altidore had opened the scoring, stand-in goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen misjudged a back pass from Benedikt Howedes and let it cross the line for an own-goal.

The Borussia Mönchengladbach stoppper was in for regular number one Manuel Neuer but didn’t do his chances of ousting his rival much good with the howler.
