LIVERPOOL’S OPPONENTS FOR today’s FA CUP third round tie, Mansfield Town, have made an original gesture of leaving 96 seats empty as a tribute to those who lost their lives during the Hillsborough disaster.
A section of the One Call Stadium will be left vacant and cards bearing the names of those 96 victims are to be placed on the seats for this afternoon’s game, which kicks off at 4pm.

The Conference club’s operations director Paul Broughton told their official website: “We wanted to do something in light of what has happened this year in terms of Hillsborough and as it’s been so long since the two sides met.
One of our fans suggested we place a name on each of the empty seats in the segregation section of the stadium. The idea sent shivers down my spine. It was an amazing idea.”
