Mancini set to discuss a move for Santos star Neymar

The Manchester City boss will consult new sporting director Txiki Begiristain over signing the Brazilian goal machine.

MANCHESTER CITY MANAGER Roberto Mancini says he may consult new sporting director Txiki Begiristain over signing Brazilian starlet Neymar.

Neymar has been linked with a host of Europe’s major clubs while Begiristain, who joined City last month, is reportedly tasked with luring the Santos striker to the Etihad Stadium.

Mancini was coy when quizzed over a possible move for the 20-year-old, who has also been heavily linked with Begiristain’s former employers Barcelona.

“I don’t know if it is true that Barcelona have already made a down-payment for Neymar,” Mancini told reporters after his side’s scoreless Premier League draw with West Ham on Sunday.

“I think when Txiki starts to work here next week we can start to talk about the future for us because this is very important.

“Neymar is a Santos player and I don’t know what can happen with him in the future.”

Mancini added that Begiristain’s presence is crucial to helping City make key signings.

“I am very happy to work with the new sporting director because he gives us the chance to move very quickly regarding some players,” the Italian said.

“If we work well together then the next three or four years for Manchester City can be very strong.”
