Cardiff and Fulham relegated as Sunderland hand Man Utd 12th league loss

Seb Larsson’s goal claimed a vital three points for Gus Poyet’s men at Old Trafford.

SUNDERLAND EMERGED VICTORIOUS from Old Trafford for the second time in a season as they defeated Manchester United 1-0.

A Seb Lrsson goal in the first-half was enough to secure all three points for the Black Cats against a floundering United side. The euphoric bump of Ryan Giggs’ temporary promotion to the Red Devils manager’s chair has certainly dissipated with United’s players appearing heavy-footed and short of ideas.

The victory means Sunderland are all but safe from the drop. They are three points clear of Norwich, who must play Chelsea and Arsenal, while Cardiff and Fulham, who both lost this afternoon, are relegated.

Gur Poyet’s Sunderland were worthy victors and could have stretched their lead in the second-half when Emanuale Giaccherini struck the crossbar with a rising shot. Javier Hernandez missed United’s best chance when he blazed over when well set inside the Mackems’ box. Ultimately, however, the Larsson goal — set up by Connor Wickham –proved enough to put his team on the brink of safety.
