Luke Shaw to miss 'a few weeks' says Van Gaal while Falcao could feature against Hull

Argentine defender Marcos Rojo could also feature for Manchester United tomorrow.

MANY FEARED THE worst after Luke Shaw hobbled off against Arsenal last weekend but Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has confirmed the left-back will miss ‘a few weeks’ after sustaining ankle ligament damage.

There are no serious complications. He will be out for the next few weeks because of this. Last time I said something about injuries it was not interpreted so well. So, Manchester United Twitter, pay attention.”

Van Gaal was referring to comments he made about Daley Blind last week after the midfielder picked up an injury on international duty. Van Gaal seemed to suggest the former Ajax player could be out for the rest of the season, something the club then tweeted. In fact, Blind will likely miss several weeks and was given a holiday to help him recuperate.

“I gave him a holiday. In the first week of recovery he needs more rest than exercise and he didn’t have much holiday in the summer because at the World Cup.”

United’s injury crisis is showing signs of calming down though with Van Gaal hinting that Marcos Rojo and Radamel Falcao may both feature against Hull at Old Trafford tomorrow.

The Argentine dislocated his shoulder in the 1-0 defeat to Manchester City at the beginning of the month but is close to a return while the on-loan striker has shaken off a calf problem and could make his first appearance for the club since the 2-2 draw against West Brom on 20th October.

The Colombian may start in place of the much-maligned Robin van Persie. The Dutchman’s form has been indifferent since the start of the campaign and Van Gaal issued a warning at his press conference.

“Every player has to fight for his position and I shall always pick the best of the players. It has to be a suitable mix.”

Van Gaal admitted that he’s happy with United currently occupying fourth place in the table but wants plenty more from his side.

“We are still fourth so I am happy but we have to be at least fourth in the end of the season and not now. Now is not so important. We have to improve our playing style and beat our opponents more easily.”
