Wayne Rooney starts as does his Man United teammate Jesse Lingard.

MAN UNITED WINGER Jesse Lingard has been handed his England debut as they take on Malta at Wembley.

Gareth Southgate takes charge of the Three Lions for the first time, and has been boosted by Gary Cahill’s return to fitness after missing training on Friday with a sore throat.

Captain Wayne Rooney also starts despite being dropped by Manchester United in recent weeks, though Marcus Rashford is only a substitute.

England XI: Hart; Walker, Stones, Cahill, Bertrand; Dele Alli, Henderson; Walcott, Rooney, Lingard; Sturridge.
