THE BALANCE OF a thrilling Premier League title race tipped back in Manchester City’s favour yesterday.

A win at Crystal Palace, coupled with Liverpool’s defeat against Chelsea, means it is Manuel Pellegrini’s side rather than the Merseysiders who now hold control of the title’s destiny.

Win their three remaining games and they will be crowned champions.

It’s a sobering thought for Liverpool fans who had just become accustomed to the thought of a first domestic crown in 24 years.

There may still be a few twists and turns yet, not least on Saturday evening when City travel to Merseyside to play an Everton side who could still be in contention for a Champions League place.

If there’s any silver lining for Liverpool fans, it’s that City’s record at Goodison Park in the Premier League era is abysmal.

Out of 16 games since 1992/1993, City have won just twice — and lost 10 times, including their last four games.

(Of course if the Champions League dream is dead by Saturday, there are probably some Everton fans who wouldn’t be terribly upset to see their side lose…)
