Uruguay international Suarez was hit with a four-month ban from all football-related activity by Fifa for biting Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini during their respective nations’ World Cup clash in Natal on June 24.
The then-Liverpool striker’s initial appeal was rejected by Fifa but he was ultimately cleared to train with new club Barcelona by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), who upheld the four-month suspension but ruled that that it would run from the day of the offence, thus clearing the player to return to action on 25 October.
As it stands, the forward is now in line to make his Barca bow 18 hours after the conclusion of his suspension against Carlo Ancelotti’s side, with the club also confirming the news on their official website.
Luis Suárez can play in the clásico at the Santiago Bernabéu on October 25 at 6.00 PM CET,” Barca’s statement reads.
“The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has confirmed to FC Barcelona that the Uruguayan’s suspension will end at midnight on Friday 24 October, thus clearing him to appear in first official fixture for his new club, against none other than Real Madrid, should Luis Enrique opt to play him.
Suarez, who left Anfield for Camp Nou for a reported €94 million, has only made one previous appearance for his new club, against Club Leon in a pre-season friendly.
