SHANE LOWRY AND Graeme McDowell gave their hopes of securing their tour cards a timely boost as they turned in their best PGA finishes of the year at the RBC Canadian Open.
Lowry made two birdies on his final three holes for a Sunday 69, enough for 14-under par overall and a share of 12th place — nine shots behind winner Dustin Johnson.

McDowell, who hasn’t won since 2015, also shot 69 to finish a further shot back on -13.
The results lift both men closer to the top 125 in the FedEx Cup race, which is the cut-off mark for the end of season playoffs as well as guaranteeing their tour card for another season, though both still have work to do.
McDowell now sits in 143rd while Lowry is in 159th.
