SHANE LOWRY IS breathing down the leaders’ necks ahead of the final round of the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational.

The Clara native is within touching distance of the biggest win of his career — and a tasty €1.4 million first prize.

Lowry shot a three-under-par 67 on Saturday to move to within two shots of the lead at Firestone Country Club.

It could have been even better for Lowry who narrowly missed with birdie putts on the 17th and the 18th.

“I’m right where I want to be going into tomorrow,” he told Sky Sports.

If I go out any play like I’ve been playing, you never know what could happen.

Justin Rose shot a magnificent 63 to rocket up the leaderboard and take a share of the overnight lead on nine-under-par.

He will tee off alongside Jim Furyk in the final group on Sunday. Furyk, who started the day four shots clear, carded a one-under-par 69 but was reeled in by the charging Englishman.

Graeme McDowell bogeyed the last to finish on four-under, five shots off the pace and good enough for a share of eighth.

But Irish eyes will be firmly on Lowry in Sunday’s final round.

“Most days you’re just trying to go out and shoot the best score you can,” he said.

“Obviously this is a massive tournament and it’s going to be a big day for me tomorrow. Going out in contention here is obviously a lot different than going out in contention in a smaller event back home.

I just want to go out, hit my first tee shot down the middle of the fairway, and take it from there.

A total of €8.4m ($9.25m) is on offer as the world’s best golfers gear up for the final major of the season, next week’s PGA Championship.
