Loss of a hurling legend: Former Waterford captain Frankie Walsh dies

The former Deise player, who has passed away at the age of 76, led the county to their last All-Ireland title back in 1959.

FRANKIE WALSH, A former All-Ireland-winning Waterford hurling captain, has passed away after falling ill.

Walsh lifted the Liam McCarthy Cup with the Deise in 1959, the last time they won the title, when they needed a replay to defeat Kilkenny.

Aged 76, he died in Waterford Regional Hospital this morning. According to his former club Mount Sion, tomorrow’s removal will be followed by a funeral on Monday morning.
