Liverpool have a new first-choice goalkeeper as Simon Mignolet is dropped

Loris Karius was signed from Mainz in the summer.

LIVERPOOL’S SUMMER SIGNING Loris Karius is the team’s new first-choice goalkeeper with Simon Mignolet dropping to the bench for today’s clash with Hull.

The Germany under-21 international was signed from Mainz for £4.7m but suffered a broken hand during pre-season.

Midweek, he started in Liverpool’s 3-0 League Cup win over Derby with Mignolet in reserve and boss Jurgen Klopp has kept the same train of thought for the Premier League.

Mignolet’s long-term future at Anfield would certainly appear in doubt now.

Karius’ last league appearance came for Mainz in a Bundesliga clash in May.

Liverpool XI: Karius, Clyne, Matip, Klavan, Milner, Lallana, Henderson, Wijnaldum, Mané, Firmino, Coutinho.
