Check out this bizarre, wind-assisted boomerang restart by Ian Humphreys

The London Irish out-half was forced to field his own kick-off.

LONDON IRISH AND Sale Sharks contested an Aviva Premiership match at the AJ Bell Stadium last night and both sides were lucky not to have been swept away in biblical gales.

Sale won out 15-3 thanks to the boot of Danny Cipriani. The Exiles’ sole response came from former Ulster out-half Ian Humphreys, who slotted over a penalty.

The real talking point, apart from the Cipriani for England chatter, were the swirling winds that often made a mockery of both team’s ambitions. The starkest demonstration of the hefty gusts came just before the half-hour mark when Humphreys’ restart hooped back 13 metres.

The out-half gathered his own kick but the referee called for a scrum on the halfway line as Humphreys’ effort never got beyond Sale’s 10m line.
