THE LIST OF nominees for the SSE Airtricity/Soccer Writers’ Association of Ireland player of the month award for July includes Shamrock Rovers youngster Gavin Bazunu.
After making his senior debut for the Hoops in June, the 16-year-old goalkeeper made an outstanding penalty save from Cork City’s Kieran Sadlier last month en route to keeping his fourth consecutive clean sheet in the Premier Division.

The young Dubliner, who also impressed during his club’s Europa League tie against Swedish side AIK, appears to have a bright future in the game, although an injury kept him sidelined for Rovers’ recent clashes with Waterford and Sligo Rovers.
Bazunu is joined on the list of nominees by team-mate Dylan Watts, who has made a promising start to life in Tallaght following his recent move from Bohemians.
Premier Division leaders Dundalk — who could capture the award for the fourth month in a row — also have two players in contention: midfielder Chris Shields and winger Michael Duffy, who was the April winner.
Derry City attacker Ally Roy is also in the running, along with young Cork City defender Sean McLoughlin.
