Here’s our SSE Airtricity League Premier Division Team of the Week

Billy Dennehy’s been almost ever-present this season, but who else made the list?

Goalkeeper

Gerard Doherty (Derry City) - Made two vital first half saves from Kelly and Akinade, while following that up with another from Kelly late on.

Defence

Robbie Williams (Limerick) – As well as scoring, hitting the post and going close from distance on a number of occasions, Williams was also defensively sound throughout.

Sean Gannon (Dundalk) - The close season signing from St Pats continues to go from strength to strength. The right back surged forward at every opportunity and is becoming one of Dundalk’s greatest attacking assets.

Ross Gaynor (Sligo Rovers) – Set up Paul O’Conor’s goal in the rout of UCD, flying forward from full back and helped the Bit o’Red keep a clean sheet.

Midfield

Garry Buckley (Cork City) – Central to the late flurry, Buckley benefited from being pushed up to be the head of the midfield after City reverted from 4-4-2. Impeccable in all he did.

Conan Byrne (St Patrick’s Athletic) - The winger was menacing all night, and had a hand in two of the goals.

Graham Kelly (Bray Wanderers) – At the heart of everything good the Seagulls offered and, despite a missed penalty, was the star of the game.

Billy Dennehy (Cork City) – Becoming a regular in the team of the week. Curled home a brilliant free late on for his fifth league goal of the season.

Ronan Finn (Shamrock Rovers) - He made the first and scored the injury-time equaliser than earned a point for Trevor Croly’s side. As they pressed late on, he always looked likely.

Forwards

Aaron Greene (Sligo Rovers) – He was involved in four of Sligo’s five goals and was tremendous up front.

Christy Fagan (St Patrick’s Athletic) – The striker took his first brilliantly, with his back to goal, and forced the second in through sheer determination.
