Welcome along. We’re 15 minutes away from kick off at Anfield, where Liverpool take on Swiss outfit Young Boys. Here are the two teams:

Liverpool: Reina, Wisdom, Skrtel, Carragher, Downing, Suso, Sahin, Henderson, Cole, Shelvey, Assaidi. Subs: Jones, Jose Enrique, Suarez, Gerrard, Coates, Allen, Sterling.

Young Boys: Wolfli, Sutter, Nef, Veskovac, Lecjaks, Zverotic, Farnerud, Zarate, Schneuwly, Nuzzolo, Bobadilla. Subs: Mvogo, Gonzalez, Ojala, Vitkieviez, Costanzo, Frey, Doubai.

The last time these two sides played, it finished 5-3 to the Reds. Let’s hope this one produces something similar. Rodgers has gone for Jonjo Shelvey as a striker tonight and it will be interesting to see how the young England midfielder does in a more advanced role.

“Jonjo Shelvey is an offensive player and he wants to score goals so it will be interesting to see him up there,” Rodgers has just told ITV.

And we’re underway. A win for Liverpool and they’ll progress to the last 32 of the competition with one game to spare. Young Boys get us going and straight from the tip break into the opposing box. The ball falls to Gonzalo Zarate with his back to goal but he hooks it over the bar.

What a start that would have been!

Oussama Assaidi, who has started wide on the left, wins Liverpool their first corner but it comes to nothing. Young Boys break and Raul Bobadilla picks out Raphael Nuzzolo, whose shot stings the hands of Pepe Reina.

Another shot on target registered by the visitors. Christian Schneuwly attempts a through-ball but fortunately gets it back off the interception. The midfielder then tries his luck but Reina gets down comfortably to collect.

Forgotten man Joe Cole has been given a chance on the right tonight. Moments after overhitting a pass to Andre Wisdom, the former Chelsea man receives a pass from Shelvey and drills a shot narrowly wide of the far post.

He’s just been brought down by Alain Nef, meanwhile, and Liverpool have a free-kick some 30 yards out. Jordan Henderson is elected to take on the strike and while it sneaks through the wall, Marco Wolfli has it covered.

Skrtel blocks a shot to hand Young Boys a corner but Liverpool break from it with Suso and Assaidi. Dusan Veskovac snuffs out the danger but tries to be too clever and back-heels the ball to Assaidi. Wolfli picks up the loose ball but the Serbian defender has done his hamstring and is in some discomfort.

Juhani Ojala, who scored at both ends when these two met last, is on in his place.

Luis Suarez would be proud of that piece of play from stand-in striker Shelvey, who expertly flicks a pass first time into the path of Henderson. The ex-Sunderland player is free with just the goalkeeper to beat but his strike is tame and Wolfli saves.

The Young Boys fans have just unveiled this banner. Nice touch.

An excellent cross from Wisdom isn’t met by a red jersey and it’s the defender’s last involvement tonight. Steven Gerrard is on in his place and we’re being told the 19-year-old had picked up an injury.

GOAL! Liverpool 1-0 Young Boys (Jonjo Shelvey)

Great goal with Joe Cole right at the centre of it. Cole plays a one-two with Suso then dinks the ball over the onrushing goalkeeper to the back post, where Shelvey has the easiest of headers.

Shelvey and Cole link up again to unleash Suso but the Spanish U21 international fails to hit the target with the goal at his mercy. Should do better there.

Half-time: Liverpool 1-0 Young Boys

Bobadillo headers over from a decent position before the first half draws to a close. Liverpool have improved as the half has gone on and deserve their lead a half-time.

At St James’ Park, Newcastle are 1-0 up against Portuguese side Maritimo thanks to French winger Sylvain Marveaux’s 23rd minute goal.

And we’re back. Doesn’t look to have been any changes at the break so we’re as you are.

Schneuwly plays Alexander Farnerud after a headed knock-down and, with a yard of space, opts to shoot. It’s always rising however, and sails over.

The same player then creates another opportunity for his side with a neat flick to Elsad Zverotic, who isn’t very far away from 20 yards.

Cracking equaliser by the visiting team. Farnerud lofts a ball to Bobadilla and the Argentine striker takes a first touch on his thigh before blasting it past Reina. Henderson possibly at fault for standing off the Young Boys big man.

Liverpool respond with some pressure. Henderson’s cross is ahead of Shelvey, then Skrtel seeks an opening to shoot but is crowded out and Assaidi takes a heavy touch to see the ball run out of play.

Here comes Luis Suarez. Liverpool’s top scorer gets a half hour to add to his tally, with Suso making way. The young Spaniard has done well.

It was coming. A series of quick passing ends with Suarez find Gerrard, who in turn picks out  Cole. He beats the offside trap and squeezes the ball past Wolfli.

That’s Cole’s last action. He gets a huge cheer before departing for Raheem Sterling. Undoubtedly his best display in a red shirt for a long time.

Michael Frey is on in place of Raphael Nuzzolo for the Young Boys.

And we’re level again. Exchanging passes with Bobadillo, Zverotic smashes the ball home from the edge of the box with two minutes remaining.

On Tyneside, Newcastle have also drawn after substitute Philipe Fidelis equalised for Maritimo with 11 minutes to play.
