Liverpool set to sign the 'Irish Messi' - reports

After scoring seven goals in a trial game in Spain, Zak Gilsenan drew comparisons to the superstar.

LIVERPOOL HAVE OVERCOME competition from Man United, Chelsea and Arsenal to sign Irish wonder kid Zak Gilsenan.

Dubbed the ‘Irish Messi’, Gilsenan from Castleknock spent most of his life in Australia before joining Barcelona and training at the La Masia academy, which has already produced stars such as Messi, Xavi and Andres Iniesta.

After scoring seven goals in a trial game in Spain, he drew comparisons with Messi, and has gone on to captain Barcelona’s youth side in the two years he has spent at the club.

Nevertheless, the Daily Star reports that the 11-year-old — who would be eligible to play for England, Ireland or Australia should he succeed in becoming a professional footballer – has been persuaded to leave Barcelona and sign up with Liverpool’s academy.
