HILLSBOROUGH CAMPAIGNERS HOPE that the Gerry and the Pacemakers classic ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ can re-enter the UK singles charts, after it shot to the top of the iTunes download charts this week.
The song is synonymous with Liverpool Football Club and has been given renewed prominence this week, following the full disclosure of documents relating to the Hillsborough disaster in 1989.
It re-entered the iTunes chart this week after an appeal by supporters and shot from number 22 to 2 in the space of four hours, before hitting top spot in the early hours of Saturday morning.
“People have asked what they can do now. If you download You’ll Never Walk Alone, it will send a message to the rest of the country,” said Liverpool Walton MP Steve Rotheram.
