AN AVID GAMER has broken the Guinness World Record for the longest ever single game of Football Manager, running an astonishing 154 seasons.
Liverpool fan Darren Bland, also known as Wulfhammer, spent 173 days, 16 hours and 51 minutes over the course of nearly two years of real-life time from early 2013 to late 2014 managing Fiorentina in Football Manager 2010.

Bland eventually had to call it a day in the in-game year of 2163 after liquid damaged his laptop, having won Serie A a mere 151 times and, unsurprisingly, earning ‘Legendary’ status. His single biggest purchase was £105 million for Luis Tejedor on 1 July, 2040.
In the real world I’m an 80s glory-hunting Liverpool fan, fallen on less glorious times, I had a previous save with me managing them for 80 odd years,” Bland told Guinness World Records.
“But, variety is the spice and all that so, on this occasion, I plumped for Fiorentina. When I start a game with a club, I finish it with said club. Why abandon all the hard work just for some computer algorithm to muck it all up while I have to start the process all over?
I chose Fiorentina because a) My all time favourite player had a mediocre season with them — the genius, the doctor, the bearded lord of the nonchalant style, Socrates from the wonderful 1982 Brazil team. And b) They play in purple … Not a bad colour to look at for 154 years. If it’s good enough for Prince….”
According to Football Manager’s official Facebook page, Bland was required to pass a maximum number of ‘holiday’ days. So don’t get any ideas, folks.
