LIVERPOOL’S SEASON HAS gotten off to a slower start than expected, chairman Tom Werner has admitted.
In his end of year message to fans Werner says that there was a lot to reflect on over the last 12 months but that “our season has gotten off to a slower start than we would have wanted”.

The Boston Red Sox owner said: “While we did not achieve our ultimate ambition in winning the Premier League, our style of play captured the attention of the world as the club played attacking football, scoring 101 goals.”
What is notable from the statement is that there is no vote of confidence for under pressure manager Brendan Rodgers. In fact Rodgers is barely mentioned at all in the message.
The 64-year-old also praised last season’s top scorer Luis Suarez and admitted that his loss has been a major blow to Brendan Rodgers’ side.
“Luis Suarez was named the best player in English football, winning the PFA Player of the Year award; Brendan Rodgers was awarded the LMA Manager of the Year award; and our captain, Steven Gerrard, continued to demonstrate his talents as one of the greatest football players of our era.”
Liverpool have been without Daniel Sturridge since August but Werner says he has been encouraged by the English striker’s efforts at recovery and says he will be back this month.
“As we look at the table this New Year’s Eve, we have closed the gap between Liverpool and the top four clubs to five points. We look forward to the return of Daniel Sturridge sometime in late January. We are very encouraged by his efforts and determination to resolve his injuries. Great progress has been made that should help him going forward.”
