Liverpool 'not in title race' after Brighton defeat, says Robertson

With a showdown against Man City just around the corner, Robbo admits that the Reds are currently out of the running.

LIVERPOOL DEFENDER ANDY Robertson said the Premier League champions are โ€œnot in the title raceโ€ after a shock 1-0 defeat at home to Brighton.

Jurgen Kloppโ€™s men struggled to break down the visitors and Steven Alzate scored the only goal of the game in the 56th minute.

It was Liverpoolโ€™s second consecutive league defeat at Anfield after a 68-game unbeaten run at home and leaves them seven points behind leaders Manchester City, who also have a game in hand.

โ€œBrighton were the better team,โ€ said the Liverpool left-back. โ€œWe were hugely disappointing all over the park.

โ€œYou have to give the team credit for playing well. They created chances, pressed us โ€” did everything we wanted to do.

โ€œWe didnโ€™t really do anything of note. With a long record of going unbeaten weโ€™ve lost two. When you donโ€™t show up you donโ€™t get results.โ€

The Scotland international said Liverpool, who host Manchester City on Sunday, must find a way to get results.

โ€œAny game against Man City is a big one,โ€ he said. โ€œAs this moment stands, weโ€™re not in the title race. We are seven points behind them and they have a game in hand.โ€

โ€œWeโ€™re still a good team,โ€ he added. โ€œWe donโ€™t turn into a bad team overnight.โ€

Desperately sad news. I remember sitting in Craigโ€™s car when I was younger during the rally of the lakes thinking life canโ€™t get any better than this. A legend, and a gent. RIP.

@Seรกn Oโ€™Sullivan: lovely story, the best part being it wasnโ€™t lost on him how much joy that would have brought to a young rally fan, coz he was probably also thinking life doesnโ€™t get better than this. Taken way too soon, but through his infectious positivity and heartwarming raw emotion, he experienced more happiness than most of us could wish for, Iโ€™m just glad that I got to feed off some of that. Rally Finland in 2016 was just so brilliant, he never let the politics dampen his enthusiasm for his passion, rest easy Craig.

Absolutely devastating news, he has been a great ambassador for Ireland and motorsport. A really talented driver and a really decent person. Condolences to his family and friends, heโ€™ll be a massive loss to the motoring community. RIP.
