Bolton 0-2 Everton

Chelsea 3-0 Wolves

Man United 1-1 Newcastle

Norwich 2-1 QPR

Sunderland 1-2 Wigan

West Brom 1-3 Tottenham

The key questions from today’s Premier League fixtures:

Arsenal v Fulham

- Can Robin van Persie keep scoring? According to gambler’s logic, he’s due a blank. But then another goal would only prolong the perception that he’s truly entering the status of “super-forward”. At present, his run is up there with Henry 2002-06, Cristiano Ronaldo 2006- and Leo Messi 2008-

Chelsea v Wolves

- Can Chelsea claim a win? To be fair, their problem has not really been against lower teams where their defence isn’t actually troubled enough. But, given the context of the last week, there is a danger that anxiety will undo some of the attacking integration that Villas-Boas has already managed.

Manchester United v Newcastle

- after another mid-week disappointment, can a returning Rooney rouse United? They’re going to particularly need a touch moe craft today against a cohesive, tight Newcastle team

- or, after enduring their first defeat of the season at City last week, will Newcastle begin to cave? Or has Alan Pardew constructed something longer lasting.

Norwich v QPR

- who’ll blink first in the battle of the promoted teams? Both have impressed so far this season.

- can Steve Morison score for the fourth Premier League game in a row?

- can Heidar Helguson keep up his high-flying form? Since October, only Robin van Persie has scored more.

Sunderland v Wigan

- will this prove a watershed for Steve Bruce? His team have only one twice at home in 2011 but should really be expected to defeat Wigan.

- in saying that, like Blackburn, Wigan’s results often haven’t reflected their performances. Roberto Martinez said this week “we feel we are owed some points”. Can they get them against a team there for the taking?

West Brom v Tottenham

- how much lesser of a team will Spurs be without Modric and Van der Vaart, who are missing today?

- can West Brom recover the rigidity that marked their early season?

And we’re off in the Premier League three o’clocks

Already seems more open and louder at Old Trafford. There’s a good atmosphere and a lively start from United.

Nani just ripped through the Newcastle right side.

Chelsea, by the by, are playing their youngest line-up in three years with Lampard dropped for Meireles and Mikel for Romeu. Will that encourage Villas-Boas’s style?

Hernandez beats the offside trap after a fine ball from Evra then strikes from distance. This is open.

GOAL! Chelsea 1-0 Wolves

Villas-Boas’s style may have made John Terry less effective at his own end but, in the air, he’s still productive at the other. The centre-half heads in from a Mata corner.

GOAL! West Brom 1-0 Tottenham

Stephen Reid crosses for Mulumbu to deftly head home. Justified lead after a strong start from West Brom.

GOAL! Sunderland 1-0 Wigan

Al-Habsi fumbles a Bendtner shot, allowing Sebastian Larsson to continue his own good start to the season and tap in.

GOAL! Norwich 1-0 QPR

Anton Ferdinand fails to clear a corner, allowing Russell Martin to fire home.

Bolton’s David Wheater receives a straight red card for lunging in on Bilyaletdinov.

This via Infostrada: with four goals John Terry has now equalled his season best, which cme in 2005-06. So clearly Villas-Boas’s style is having one positive effect on his game.

GOAL! West Brom 1-1 Tottenham

Adebayor misses a penalty after Lennon is brought down by Shoret but responds quickest to tuck in the rebound.

GOAL! Chelsea 2-0 Wolves

That’s one way to start banishing doubts. Another superb ball from Mata is effortlessy converted by the in-form Sturridge.

It’s been fairly breathless stuff so far today then.

Newcastle performing well at Old Trafford. Keeping United at bay and threatening them on the counter.

Newcastle dangerously probe around the United box, resulting in Ben Arfa driving low at De Gea. Newcastle arguably the better side at the minute.

United’s midfield has been the subject of much discussion at the moment but it’s undeniable that, so far today, Cabaye and Guthrie are ruling the area.

GOAL! Sunderland 1-1 Wigan

Despite Sunderland dominating, goalscorer Larsson fouls Moses in the box, allowing Gomez to slot home a penalty.

GOAL! Chelsea 3-0 Wolves

Mata is putting on a master-class today. Ashley Cole crosses for a superb volley.

Half-time at Old Trafford where United have a lot to think about it.

Chelsea looking supreme today with the midfield, in particular, purring.

The one incident we overlooked in the middle of that, actually, was Rooney swinging out Coloccini on the ground. If – at best – the striker was just going for the ball, why was he doing it so aggressively and abrasively? Ben Arfa ran about 70 yards to then go up to Rooney and point at his head, gesturing insanity. Ben Arfa got booked.

And we’re back under way.

GOAL! Manchester United 1-0 Newcastle United

Very fortuitous that. Rooney hits a free against the wall and then drives the rebound back towards goal. Steven Taylor tries to clear and it rebounds off Hernandez and in. The Mexican didn’t know much about it.

GOAL! Bolton 0-1 Everton

Baines crosses for Fellaini to finish, the midfielder looking just about onside.

At the Hawthorns, Foster produces a great save to deny Adebayor!

United, who had been well on top since the goal, almost concede an equaliser. A corner falls back to Coloccini about eight yards. He quickly flashes at De Gea who does brilliantly to tip the ball over the bar after it bounced up quickly off the turf.

GOAL! Norwich 1-1 QPR

Luke Young scores his second in seven days after Mackie’s strike rebounds off the post.

Controversy at Old Trafford as Rio Ferdinand appeared to make a risky, if clean, tackle on Ben Arfa. First seemed to be a corner but now been altered to a penalty!

Demba steps up, probably wasn’t a peno though.

GOAL! Manchester United 1-1 Newcastle

Demba Ba tucks the penalty into the bottom corner.

On repeat viewing, that was a corner not a penalty. Superb tackle Ferdinand.

Nice interchange between Rooney and Hernandez but the return ball fromthe Mexican was a touch too slow and, by the time Rooney got to wrap his leg around it, he could only awkwardly blaze it over.

The siege is starting at Old Trafford…

GOAL! Norwich 2-1 QPR

Hoolahan crosses from the right for Holt to bundle the ball into the box from close range.

That was a waste from Nani. Absolutely ripped Newcastle’s left side apart and could have gone himself. But then took a touch too far and cut back for Young, who missed an open goal but under massive pressure.

Another chance. Giggs floats across six yards from goal which Rooney just misses and Fabio awkwardly throws his head at. Cleared.

Second booking for Gutierrez at Old Trafford. But, in truth, it could have been a straight red for a horrible lunge on Nani.

What a save from Krul! Giggs swung in a corner and Vidic absolutely threw himself at header, but Krul somehow got enough of his body behind the ball to keep it out.

Hard to escape the feeling that a goal is coming for United. Newcastle introduce Lovenkrands’ pace to attempt to alleviate some pressure on break.

GOAL! Bolton 0-2 Everton

Vellios taps in easily after a Baines ball and Cahill cushion.

Yet another fantastic save from Krul. From the edge of the box, Evra pings a difficult shot at goal that was swerving away from the keeper towards the top corner but the Dutchman somehow keeps it out.

GOAL! West Brom 1-2 Tottenham

Adebayor feeds Defoe for a fine finish.

Ashley Young smashes the post now! A Nani ball fell to him 10 yards and he finally beat Krul with a well-hit strike but it rebounded off the upright!

Off the line now!! Simpson clears off the line from Fabio’s header. That was a matter of inches!

Macheda coming on for Evra… 87 minutes and a fair bit of stoppage time to come.

And that should have been 2-1! Another great Giggs cross but Macheda heads it woefully wide from about five yards.

Four minutes of stoppage time signalled at Old Trafford at the same time that Taylor blocks another clear run at goal from Young.

OFFSIDE! Hernandez turns in a United effort but it’s flagged!

It’s a matter of inches again though. Only his elbow is ahead.

FULL-TIME: Manchester United 1-1 Newcastle

A barely believable result as United lay siege but, for the second game in a row, the moment doesn’t come. Although that was largely down to Newcastle’s supremely marshalled defence.

GOAL! Sunderland 1-2 Wigan

Is Steve Bruce’s job in trouble now? A big, big goal for Wigan too as Brown is robbed in possession, allowing Di Santo to tap home in the 93rd minute.

GOAL! West Brom 1-3 Tottenham

Both Spurs and Adebayor keep the run going as the striker easily finishes from Bakle’s ball across.

A goal-laden day in the Premier League but it’s difficult to not concentrate on events at old Trafford.

As bad as the penalty decision was, there seems to be a lot of doubt about the offisde. Hernandez’s elbow may have been fractionally ahead of the play but, if it was that difficult to spot in a replay, it was even more difficult to spot in open play. As such, should striker get benefit of the doubt?

But, there’s also debate about whether Carrick got a touch which would have been definitely offside.

Anyway, we’ll be back shortly with a round-up, parting shots and of course coverage of Arsenal-Fulham.
