Bolton 0-2 Newcastle

Liverpool 1-1 Blackburn Rovers

Manchester United 5-0 Wigan

Sunderland 1-1 Everton

West Brom 0-0 Manchester City

Welcome to the Premier League three o’clocks after a less-than-thrilling display from Chelsea this afternoon.

The big ones:

Gerrard is back on the bench as Liverpool will look to batter Blackburn. Rooney is rested on the bench as Ferguson starts Berbatov and Hernandez against Wigan.

The teams, it’s an odd one from United:

Manchester United Lindegaard, Valencia, Evans, Carrick, Evra, Park, Gibson, Giggs, Nani, Berbatov, Hernandez

Subs: De Gea, Rooney, Welbeck, Rafael Da Silva, Macheda, Diouf, Fryers

Wigan Athletic Al Habsi, Stam, Alcaraz, Caldwell, Figueroa, Jones, Diame, McCarthy, Gomez, Moses, Sammon

Subs: Pollitt, Gohouri, Crusat, Watson, Di Santo, McArthur, Rodallega

Liverpool Reina, Johnson, Skrtel, Agger, Jose Enrique, Maxi, Henderson, Adam, Downing, Suarez, Carroll

Subs: Doni, Gerrard, Kuyt, Carragher, Shelvey, Kelly, Bellamy

Blackburn Rovers Bunn, Lowe, Samba, Hanley, Pedersen, Henley, Dunn, Nzonzi, Hoilett, Formica, Yakubu

Subs: Kean, Petrovic, Rochina, Blackman, Goodwillie, Vukcevic, Morris

Sunderland Westwood, O’Shea, Bramble, Brown, Bardsley, Larsson, Cattermole, Vaughan, Richardson, Sessegnon, Bendtner

Subs: Carson, Gardner, Kilgallon, Colback, Ji, McClean, Elmohamady

Everton Howard, Hibbert, Distin, Jagielka, Baines, Drenthe, Neville, Heitinga, Osman, Cahill, Saha

Subs: Mucha, Bilyaletdinov, Stracqualursi, McFadden, Gueye, Barkley, Vellios

West Brom Foster, Jones, Olsson, McAuley, Shorey, Brunt, Scharner, Mulumbu, Thomas, Long, Odemwingie.

Subs: Fulop, Dorrans, Jara Reyes, Dawson, Thorne, Cox, Fortune

Manchester City Hart, Zabaleta, Toure, Kompany, Clichy, Toure Yaya, Milner, Nasri, Silva, Aguero, Balotelli

Subs: Pantilimon, Lescott, Dzeko, Johnson, Savic, Barry, De Jong

And we’re off

Statement of intent from West Brom as Chris Brunt curls one just wide off Joe Hart’;s post.

GOAL! Manchester United 1-0 Wigan

That was quick. Evra pulls it back for Park to easily finish.

Keiren Westwood saves well too keep out a Tim Cahill effort from eight yards.

Wigan have responded well, as has been a feature of their last few games in the Premier League.

Berbatov almost fashions a chance for Hernandez but an otherwise lax Wigan defence clears.

Carroll, meanwhile, starting only his sixth game with Suarez and we’re seeing the same old problem. Liverpool are hitting him in the air except all they’re finding is Chrostopher Samba. The number-nine is being dominated. Again.

Hernandez might have had a penalty after being brought down by Alcaraz before Caldwell then clears it off the line from a Nani effort. So much for a Wigan response!

At Anfield, Carroll tees up Suarez who cuts inside well but also curls well wide. His finishing is an increasing issue.

Henderson volleys over from distance as irritation grows at Anfield.

This from InfostradaLive and it sums up the day in general.

Everton have only scored 5 goals in the first half this season, fewest in #EPL. They have no 1st half goal in last 5 matches.

GOAL! Sunderland 1-0 Everton

Substitute Jack Colback finishes thanks to a huge deflection from Sylvain Distin. Somewhat harsh on Everton who started well.

City have missed two sitters, once through Silva the other through Aguero.

Controversial call at Anfield as Bunn brings down Maxi for what would have been a penalty… except the linesman had already flagged for offside.

Balotelli has a goal disallowed at City. Looked just about the right call.

Worth noting at United actually that, after talking up Carrick so much mid-week, Ferguson then sticks him in defence. Doesn’t seem to be affecting United as it did at Fulham two years ago.

Conor Sammon gets sent off at Old Trafford for sticking his arm into Carrick’s face. Looked very harsh but, from a certain POV, it might have appeared an elbow. It wasn’t though.

That was on Evans, sorry, not Carrick.

Still not happening for Liverpool or City.

GOAL! Manchester United 2-0 Wigan

Dmitar Berbatov keeps up his recent run of form who takes advantage of Al-Habsi’s hesitation to come out and then flicks it past him. Easy. And surely over. Even if Wigan will justifiably feel hard done by.

GOAL! Liverpool 0-1 Blackburn Rovers

Agger gives away a needless corner and, completing the comedy of errors, Adam then directs Pedersen’s delivery into his own net.

Half-times everywhere now. Only four goals in almost four hours of football there across those five games, but one of them is a bit of a shock.

We’re back under way… will we see Liverpool or City turn their games around? Will we just see more goals?

Blackburn have yet to keep a clean-sheet this season. That is, at least, encouragement fro Liverpool.

Suarez throws his hands up in the air as Bunn appears to say something there after initially make the save from the striker.

Evans goes off for Manchester United meaning their current defence is…

Valencia-Carrick-Fryers-Evra

There is almost nothing happening at Bolton-Newcastle by the by.

Evra has moved to centre-back for United with Fryers going out left.

GOAL! Liverpool 1-1 Blackburn Rovers

Maxi Rodriguez heads from close range after a corner is initially cleared. Blackburn’s wait for a cleansheet goes on. But can Liverpool break a recent trend? Can they score twice at home?

GOAL! Sunderland 1-1 Everton

Baines puts away a penalty for Everton. But it looked very harsh! Osman appeared to kick the floor and fall over!

City living on the edge a bit here. Long headed wide when Kolo Toure went asleep. Not the first time West Brom have threatened in the last few minutes.

GOAL! Manchester United 3-0 Wigan

Berbatov pokes it into the top corner superbly after a fine run from Valencia.

City bringing Barry on for Nasri. A somewhat odd move given they’ve controlled the game and need a goal. Although, Mancini has to shore up these West Brom breaks.

At Anfield, Downing lofts one in. It’s not strong enough for Carroll to head towards goal with any power but he then tries a bicycle kick. Ambitious!

All Liverpool at the moment and they are getting closer. Blackburn struggling with deep balls.

At old Trafford, Giggs and Nani off, Rooney and Macheda on.

At Anfield, Gerrard is getting ready to come on.

Gerrard on for Charlie Adam.

And Gerrard almost has an impact immediately. He swings in a dangerous free-kick but Maxi heads a free header over the bar from just yards out.

GOAL! Bolton 0-1 Newcastle United

Something happens at the Reebok! Taylor sets up Ben Arfa who finishes brilliantly!

Drama at Anfield meanwhile as Hoilett goes down in the box but referee Mike Jones judges it to be a dive.

At the Hawthornes, Jerome Thomas hits the bar against City!

GOAL! Bolton 0-2 Newcastle

And, at the Reebok, Bolton’s misery continues. Ba’s fine run continues.

According to Opta… Demba Ba has scored 21 goals in just 25 Premier League starts.

GOAL! Manchester United 4-0 Wigan

United eating into City’s goal difference. Carrick touches for Valencia who then drilles it into the top corner. Fine goal.

And now it’s a penalty for United as Park is pulled down in the box…

GOAL! Manchester United 5-0 Wigan

Hat-trick for Berbatov as he drills in the penalty.

Bellamy coming on for Maxi just after Carroll goes close.

At the Hawthornes, Dzeko is on for Milner.

Blackburn stroking it about now. Frustrating for Liverpool.

Equally frustrating for City who have really struggled to open up a diligent West Brom in the second half.

Downing’s header from Bellamy’s cross is palmed away by Bunn.

Dzeko misses a sitter, heading wide!

Into stoppage time at West Brom-City where it’s still 0-0

FULL-TIME: West Brom 0-0 Manchester City

Great result for Roy Hodgson who marshalled that defence superbly for the second halfd. Damaging result for City who have now seen the five-point lead from that 6-1 win cut away completely. It is that exact five-goal win, however, that keeps them top on goal difference.

FULL-TIME: Manchester United 5-0 Wigan

Manchester United continue their fine run against Wigan by eviscerating them again and, by doing so,keep up their brilliant Christmas form. That’s 10 in two games.

Carroll could have been the hero at Anfield… Instead Bunn and Henley are! First, the keeper saves Carroll’s volley from just two yards. Then Skrtel heads the corner into the bottom corner. But Henley is there to clear it!

FULL-TIME: Liverpool 1-1 Blackburn Rovers

Stand-in goalkeeper Bunn had a superb game but Liverpool’s problems scoring goals and beating lesser teams continues.

A stat here from Sean O’Sullivan:

Dimitar Berbatov now has just 1 less league goal than Luis Suarez in 10-11, despite playing just 255 minutes to the Uruguayan’s 1,454.

FULL-TIME: Bolton 0-2 Newcastle United

Newcastle claim their first win in six. It’s hard to have faith in Bolton.

FULL-TIME: Sunderland 1-1 Everton

No late winner for Sunderland but the belief is really back with the team.
