A brilliant start by Spurs and an even better save by Paddy Kenny from Rafael van der Vaart. The Dutchman has been prolific lately, he takes a pass from Luka Modric neatly but is thwarted by the former Sheffield United man.

Not even ten minutes have elapsed but there’s been a change – Hoops defender Fitz Hall has been forced off injured, replaced by Danny Gabbidon.

Great play from Adebayor, who lets in Bale. The Welshman flies forward but his cross is just missed by the Tottenham striker. Spurs have had almost all the possession.

Scott Parker’s down – blood on forehead.

He’s fine though. Booming kick by Kenny but Helguson’s header is ineffective.

Ray Wilkins is a very calming man. Easy on the ears. We miss those Tango ads.

1-0 to Spurs and it’s a great goal. Van der Vaart switches the ball to Aaron Lennon who plays in Gareth Bale. The Welshman’s left foot does the rest as he blasts the ball past Kenny. It’s his second goal of the season.

Joey Barton just produces a dreadful free-kick that sails out of play. We’ve also just heard the name Adel Taarabt for the first time today. He’s playing his former club and doing absolutely nothing.

More excellent football from Tottenham results in a shot from Van der Vaart. It’s weak, though. Kenny saves.

Tottenham’s full-backs do brilliantly to create a chance for Bale. Kyle Walker’s cross finds Assou-Ekotto, whose ball is fired over by the off-balance Welshman.

It’s far too easy for Tottenham, and Van der Vaart has scored for the fifth game in a row! Ledley King has a shot that seems to be going wayward but it’s deflected into the Dutch player’s path. Van der Vaart makes no mistake.

Beautiful technique from Modric as he swivels and volleys from the edge of the area. Just wide. Spurs are utterly dominant.

Spurs dink the ball around superbly – one touch football from one end of the pitch to the other – resulting in another Modric effort. He doesn’t score, but phenomenal play.

Adebayor’s turn to go for the goal but he was never going to score from a tight angle.

Disclaimer: We’d be talking about QPR a lot more if they’d actually shown up today.

That’s half-time and it’s Tottenham 2-0 QPR. Spurs have had all the play and been quite brilliant. The less said about Neil Warnock’s side the better.

Risky move by Warnock, he’s now played all of his substitutes. Jamie Mackie and Jay Bothroyd replace Shaun Derry and Taarabt, who’s probably sulking at a bus stop right around now.

QPR have been much improved in this half, with a greater percentage of the play. Mackie has made a difference.

Adebayor powers forward on the counter attack but Gabbidon gets a superb block in.

Sublime skill from Shaun Wright-Phillips to keep the ball in and cross the ball. Helguson shoots over though. We have a game at last.

Another great run by Bale but his cross is slightly behind Van der Vaart, whose backheel is too casual.

QPR have scored! Helguson is good in the air and he rises to meet a corner, heading on to Jay Bothroyd, who nods the ball home for his first Premier League goal in five and a half years. That was coming.

Kenny makes a complete bags of a Van der Vaart free-kick, but redeems himself with a superb stop from Bale. Very enjoyable match, this.

We nearly had 2-2 but Friedel saved well from Faurlin and King mopped up. Whew!

Kenny saves from Assou-Ekotto – he batted it away when he should have held it, giving Lennon the chance to cross the ball. It’s cleared.

“A work of art!” screams the commentary as Spurs go 3-1 up. Van der Vaart to Lennon to Bale to Lennon to Bale to the back of the net. Stunning interplay from Tottenham and last year’s PFA Player Of The Year has his second.

Lennon has been incredible today and he tees up Adebayor. The Togolese’s first touch was great but he drags his shot wide. 21 attempts for Spurs, nine for QPR. 11 on target for Tottenham.

Faurlin takes a free-kick from the edge of the area but his effort is over the bar. Spurs are ten minutes from a victory that would bring them above Liverpool in the table.

Spurs are guilty of playing like their nearest neighbours, taking too many touches in the box and seeing the ball cleared. That being said, they have been impressive today.

Good play from Mackie, who finds Wright-Phillips. However, the winger’s curling effort fails to trouble Friedel. Meanwhile, Scott Parker – brilliant today – is replaced by Sandro.

Three minutes of injury time left. Hard to see anything happening to change the outcome now, both teams are tiring.

Barton’s corner results in an effort on the Spurs goal – Bale clears – Mackie’s effort is then cleared brilliantly by Lennon.

That’s it, it’s all over and it’s finished Tottenham 3-1 QPR. Gareth Bale scores his first goals at White Hart Lane since New Year’s Day, with Rafael van der Vaart continuing his hot streak. Bothroyd’s header proved to be nothing more than a consolation.

While Tottenham were not quite as dominant in the second half as the first, it was still a fine performance from Harry Redknapp’s side.
