As it happened: Stoke City v Manchester United, Premier League

Can Jose Mourinho’s side get back to winning ways at the Bet365 Stadium?

Hello and welcome to this afternoon’s 3pm Premier League liveblog.

Jose Mourinho’s side will take on Mark Hughes’ Potters at the Bet365 Stadium looking to get back to winning ways after their 1-1 draw with Liverpool last time out.

As per usual, feel free to get in touch with us via Twitter, Facebook or the comments section below.

Team news is on the way.

Mark Hughes has named an unchanged side for this afternoon’s clash with the Irish interest being Glenn Whelan in central midfield and goalkeeper Shay Given on the bench.

Mourinho has named Michael Carrick and Matteo Darmian on the bench, while Marcos Rojo misses out through illness, which means there are starts for Chris Smalling, Daley Blind and Marouane Fellaini.

Juan Mata is also included from the start as Anthony Martial misses out on the match-day squad altogether.

Wayne Rooney and Marcus Rashford are joined on the bench by one Bastian Schweinsteiger. Some interesting selections to say the least.

Will they get the job done?Get your predictions in below.

This game will be live on Sky Sports 5 by the way, exclusively for viewers in Ireland.

It’s four years since Manchester United have won at Stoke and the home side have prevailed in their last two games in the Premier League — away to Sunderland and at home against Watford.

Just moments away from kick-off at the Bet365 Stadium.

And they’re off.

Stoke are getting plenty of numbers forward early on and have had United on the back foot for the opening few minutes.

United have settled a bit better now and have killed Stoke’s early momentum. It’s been a relatively cagey affair so far with no clear chances as of yet.

An early booking for Arnautovic after his coming together with Mkhitaryan brings the Armenian to the ground and halts a United counter-attack.

A moment of panic as Grant spills the resulting free-kick on the head of Shawcross. But Stoke eventually clear their lines.

There’s a bit of edge to this, an enjoyable tussle so far.

Zlatan nearly unlocks the Stoke defence but the Potters force a corner.

Stoke are dealing with the aerial deliveries with relative ease, as is the norm for the Potters.

Stoke 1 Man United 0 (Mata OG ’19)

That was actually an own goal from Juan Mata after a good break down the left from Stoke. Game on at the Bet365 Stadium.

WHAT A HOWLER from Juan Mata. He’ll be gutted with that one.

Ibrahimovic does brilliantly to pick out the Spaniard at the back post but Mata skies it over the bar from a couple of yards out with the goal at his mercy.

United have been getting into the groove in the last few minutes; their link-up play has improved and they’re attacking with more fluency. Everything good they’ve been doing has been going through Ibrahimovic though.

Mkhitaryan with a great piece of skill. His run deep into Stoke territory results in him sliding in Ibrahimovic but the big Swede’s cross is intercepted when it looked for all money that he’d be unleashing an effort on goal.

United have been creating chances aplenty since the Stoke goal but they’ve repeatedly been firing well over the bar. Mkhitaryan is the latest guilty party.

Five minutes until half-time, can United find an equaliser?

Free-kick for United now in a dangerous position, on the edge of the Stoke box, after a foul on Pogba.

CHANCE — Grant saves well from Fellaini’s volley which bounced up off the ground and awkwardly for the goalkeeper.

Well, that didn’t go to plan for Mourinho and Co. An even enough half but Stoke are in pole position to get the three points.

The Portuguese has plenty of firepower to bring on though — Rashford and Rooney among others — so it will be interesting to see how the next 45 minutes unfold.

The second half is under way.

No changes to either team.

United have been dominating possession in the early stages of the second period but are struggling to break Stoke down.

Free-kick for United out wide on the right after a handball by Arnautovic.

Mata delivers but Stoke win the header once again and clear their lines.

This is heating up nicely, and Marcus Rashford is on for Fellaini.

United are still surging forward with regularity but struggling to create too many clear-cut chances.

Stoke have looked comfortable in the air all day and United just continue to rain in the crosses.

Handball shout against Pieters but it would have been very harsh.

Rashford is starting to give Glen Johnson a torrid time of it, looks like a good swap by Mourinho. Stoke are still battling bravely but under serious spells of pressure.

Afellay is on for the home side, with Adam making way.

GOOD SAVE from De Gea against the run of play. Shaqiri unleashes from outside the area after a Smalling error but the Spaniard holds on to the effort comfortably.

Wayne Rooney is getting ready to come on now too.

Rooney replaces Mata.

Rooney seems to be playing alongside Ibrahimovic as part of an orthodox front two.

Twenty-two minutes plus stoppages to play here.

It’s all been a bit pedestrian by United and Stoke are getting 10 men behind the ball whenever possible.

Jesse Lingard is United’s third and final substitute to be introduced, Mkhitaryan is the one to make way.

Stoke bring on Julien Ngoy introduce for Shaqiri.

Rashford goes close as United start to throw everything at Stoke. Rooney’s cross falls to Rashford but his effort goes a couple of metres wide.

Not a happy camper.

Stoke are riding their luck a bit but are still somehow keeping a dominant United at bay. Just over 10 minutes plus stoppages left for them to hang on.

Rooney heads over, losing his bearings seemingly, after a clever knock-down by Lingard.

They’ve been scoring late goals of in recent times, can they continue that trend?

Five minutes plus stoppages to play and no sign of United levelling matters.

OFF THE BAR from Lingard. A rasping effort from just outside the box but it’s just inches too high.

Five minutes off injury time

Stoke City 1 Manchester United 1 (Wayne Rooney ’94)

What a goal from Rooney to break Bobby Charlton’s goal-scoring record for Manchester United, his free-kick in the fourth minute of injury time flying straight into Grant’s top corner.
