Cillian O’Connor seems to have been handed the role of freetaker for Mayo today. He knocks a free between the posts from straight in front of target 0-2 0-1

O’Connor levels matters with a free from his hand after Alan Freeman is taken down charging towards the Mayo goal. 0-2 0-2

A big effort from Shine – launched from out near the sideline – goes out for a ’45 after getting a late Mayo touch. The forward nails the subsequent set piece 0-3 0-2

Cathal Clegg notches up Roscommon’s fourth wide before Shine gets his first point from play and moves the Rossies two points ahead 0-4 0-2

Shine demonstrates just how tricky conditions are by sending a seemingly straight forward free kick across the face of the goal and wide.

Clegg responds by fisting a point over the bar for Roscommon. Suddenly some daylight is appearing between the teams. 0-5 0-2

Roscommon’s Donal Ward is the first man into the referee’s notebook – for a foul on Alan Dillion – but O’Connor puts the free to the right and wide and Mayo now haven’t score in over 11 minutes.

Superb play from Roscommon’s forwards allows Shine take the ball, turn away from his marker and score another fine point 0-6 0-2

Mayo’s response is immediate however. Andy Moran claims their first point from play. 0-6 0-3

Better again from Mayo. O’Connor collects his third free-kick of the day and moves the men and green and red to within two. 0-6 0-4

A raid forward from half back Donal Ward results in another point for Roscommon 0-7 0-4

Another lovely free-kick from Shine doubles the scores once again. Mayo have had little answer to Roscommon’s play so far. 0-8 0-4

A foul on Karol Mannion – which sees Keith Higgins booked – allows Shine to edge the defending champions further ahead. 0-9 0-4

There will be at least three minutes of additional time at the end of the first half.

Niall Carty is punished for a silly challenge on Andy Moran. O’Connor opts to give the ball to Kevin McLoughlin instead of kicking at the posts himself and the latter makes no mistake from a difficult angle. 0-9 0-5

Shine misses a second free-kick in what is the last action of the first half. Roscommon could be further ahead at the break, given the amount of wides they have had, but will be happy going in ahead nonetheless. HALF TIME: 0-9 0-5

Roscommon supporters have already seen their players claim a Minor Connacht title today, so they will be hoping for more of the same in the second half. Mayo will need to find some much improved form in their dressing room…

Mayo are back on the field…

Roscommon have lost David Ward after a clash of heads. Cathal Dineen is in their half back line in his stead.

Mayo have started this half promisingly, particularly in midfield. A break forward from Roscommon is snuffed out and they will need plenty more of that type of determination over the next half hour.

Mayo manager James Moran is furious as Donie Shine takes his time over a free kick. TV3′s pundits tell us that it was just 46 seconds that O’Connor took ahead of that free-kick, which was subsequently awarded as a hop ball. Alan Dillion, meanwhile, has reduced the deficit to just two points. 0-9 0-7

Dineen is lucky to stay on the field after a late challenge on O’Connor, who picks himself up to leave just one point between the teams with another well-taken free-kick 0-9 0-8

James Kilcullen has replaced Aidan O’Shea, as a blood substitution, while Donie Shine blazes a goal opportunity over the bar – putting two points between the teams once more. 0-10 0-8

Ger Cafferkey has replaced Alan Feeney for Mayo with Darren McDermot coming into the match for Roscommon.

O’Connor puts another point over the bar for Mayo, reducing the gap to the minimum once more.

O’Connor’s impressive day continues as the 19-year-old levels matters with another fine kick. Roscommon are simply not the same side that were so well oiled in the first half.

Mayo go ahead for the first time as O’Connor splits the posts with another free-kick. It was Alan Dillion who did all the hard work though, and he was fouled by Clegg to afford O’Connor his latest chance…

Donie Shine has a chance to level matters for only the third time but his shot drops just short of the bar and is cleared by the Mayo defence.

Robert Hennelly makes a tremendous save from Shine before Mayo go down the field and get another score – Peader Gardiner the man this time. There’s now two between the teams. Mayo 0-12 Roscommon 0-10

Shine reduces the deficit to one.

A match of two halves. Roscommon were deservedly ahead at the break but a much improved display from James Horan’s men in the second half, along with the shooting boots of teenager Cillian O’Connor, saw the men in green and red claim the ultimate prize.

We’re switching our attention to the Ulster Final shortly. Hopefully the wind won’t be as much of a factor in that contest!
