As it happened: Leinster club football final and Galway hurling final

We also had updates from the All-Ireland SFC quarter-final.

Hello and welcome to our coverage of this afternoon’s GAA action. Would St. Vincent’s retain their Leinster football crown or could Rhode put three defeats at this stage in recent years behind them and cause an upset?

We also had coverage from the Galway senior hurling final where Gort took on Portumna as well as action from the All-Ireland SFC quarter-final between Corofin and Tir Chonaill Gaels.

As always, we’d love to hear your thoughts on the games. E-mail steven@thescore.ie, tweet @thescore_iepost a message to our Facebook wall, or leave a comment below.

Good afternoon. Here are the games we’ll be throwing our eye over today.

It’s very much football heavy but there’s a crucial hurling game in Galway where the All-Ireland champions look to defend their county title.

All-Ireland SFC quarter-final
Tir Chonaill Gaels (London) v Corofin (Galway), Ruislip, 1pm

Tipperary SFC semi-finals
Loughmore-Castleiney v Aherlow Gaels, Boherlahan, 1.30pm
Thomas McDonagh’s v Cahir, Templetuohy, 2pm

Leinster SFC club final
St Vincent’s (Dublin) v Rhode (Offaly), Páirc Tailteann, Navan, 2pm

Galway SHC final
Gort v Portumna, Athenry, 1.30pm

All-Ireland SFC QF - Corofin 0-1 Tir Chonaill Gaels 0-0 - 5 mins

Conditions are not great in Ruislip but Corofin have taken an early lead through Gary Sice.

All-Ireland SFC QF - Corofin 0-1 Tir Chonaill Gaels 0-0 - 10 mins

The underfoot conditions mean there’s no bounce any time a ball hits the ground in London. Scoring chances have been few and far between with the Galway champions hitting three wides from scoreable frees.

All-Ireland SFC QF - Corofin 0-1 Tir Chonaill Gaels 0-0 - 15 mins

Corofin have the game’s first goal chance but it’s cleared off the line. Half-way through the first half, there’s still just one point in this All-Ireland quarter-final.

All-Ireland SFC QF - Corofin 0-1 Tir Chonaill Gaels 0-0 - 20 mins

Cathal O’Neill has the first chance for Tir Chonaill Gaels but his free drops short and is punched clear.

All-Ireland SFC QF - Corofin 0-1 Tir Chonaill Gaels 0-1 - 22 min

After 19 minutes, we have another score at last with Cathal O’Neill making up for his earlier miss with a score for Tir Chonaill Gaels.

Half-time -

All-Ireland SFC QF - Corofin 0-2 Tir Chonaill Gaels 0-1

The Galway champions take the lead on the stroke of half-time. Surely this will improve in the second half?

Galway SHC final - Portumna 0-1 Gort 0-0

Joe Canning gets the first score of the game with a free from distance.

Galway SHC final - Portumna 0-1 Gort 0-1

Richie Cummins levels things up for Gort after the referee consults with his umpires to ensure the sliotar actually went over.

Galway SHC final –  Gort 0-2 Portumna 0-1 – 10 mins

Cummins has his second score of the game, he had a man inside him who could have found the back of the net but he didn’t spot him and took his point.

Galway SHC final - Portumna 0-2 Gort 0-2 – 11 mins

And anything Cummins can do, Canning can match. He scores his second of the game and we’re all square.

Galway SHC final –  Gort 0-3 Portumna 0-3 – 14 mins

Greg Lally gets his first score of the game with a free standing on his own 65 m line, taking full advantage of the breeze.

Portumna level things up through Ronan O’Meara after a bit of consultation between the linesman, umpires and referee.

Galway SHC final –  Gort 0-4 Portumna 0-3– 16 mins

Greg Lally gets his second score of the game with possibly the point of the game.

Galway SHC final –  Gort 0-8 Portumna 0-4 – 25 mins

A raft of scores here now. Paul Killilea opens up the first three point lead of the game and the All-Ireland champions are in trouble.

Gerry Quinn’s second free of the game and suddenly it’s a double scores game.

All-Ireland SFC QF - Corofin 0-4 Tir Chonaill Gaels 0-1 – 35 mins

Corofin dealing with the conditions much better in the second half. Points from Gary Sice and Michael Farragher stretching their lead.

Galway SHC final –  Gort 0-8 Portumna 0-5 – 29 mins

A Joe Canning free reduces the gap to three points. Richie Cummins had a chance of a goal for Gort but he sent it wide when it looked easier to score from close-range.

Leinster SFC final – St. Vincent’s v Rhode

The anthem is playing in Navan as the game is nearly under way.

Half-time -

Galway SHC final –  Gort 0-9 Portumna 0-5

Quinn slots over another free to ensure Gort lead by four at the break.

All-Ireland SFC QF - Corofin 0-6 Tir Chonaill Gaels 0-1 –41 mins

Two more points from Sice and this one looks like it might be getting away from Tir Chonaill Gaels.

Leinster SFC final – St. Vincent’s 0-0 Rhode 0-0 – 1 min

First chance of the game and Vincent’s nearly find the back of the net but the ball goes out for a 45. Mossy Quinn’s place ball goes wide.

Leinster SFC final – St. Vincent’s 0-1 Rhode 0-0 – 3 mins

It looked like Gavin Burke had taken too many steps there but the referee thought he was okay and we have the game’s first score.

All-Ireland SFC QF - Corofin 0-8 Tir Chonaill Gaels 0-1 –48 mins

Daithi Burke and Gary Sice (0-5) make it a seven point game.

Leinster SFC final – St. Vincent’s 0-2 Rhode 0-0 – 8 mins

Ciaran Dorney with a powerful effort that goes over the bar to double the defending champions’ lead.

GOAL! - Leinster SFC final – St. Vincent’s 1-2-1 Rhode 0-0

They’ve been threatening since throw-in and Mossy Quinn has the game’s first goal after a brilliant move by Vincent’s set the veteran free.

Leinster SFC final – St. Vincent’s 1-3 Rhode 0-0 – 13 mins

Rhode need something to go their way soon. After Diarmuid Connolly almost adds a second goal for Vincent’s, Ruairi Treanor points to make it a six point game.

All-Ireland SFC QF - Corofin 0-9 Tir Chonaill Gaels 0-1 –56 mins

Another Sice free keeps the scoreboard ticking over.

Galway SHC final –  Gort 0-9 Portumna 0-5 – 31 mins

Joe Canning goes for goal from a 20 metre free when he probably should have popped it over the bar as the second half gets under way.

Galway SHC final –  Gort 0-9 Portumna 0-6 – 33 mins

Damien Hayes gets the first score of the second half.

Leinster SFC final – St. Vincent’s 1-4 Rhode 0-0 – 17 mins

Mossy Quinn adds a free and Vincent’s lead is seven points.

Galway SHC final –  Gort 0-9 Portumna 0-7 – 35 mins

Damien Hayes brings Portumna back within two points and the defending champions make much the better start to the second half.

Leinster SFC final – St. Vincent’s 1-5 Rhode 0-0 – 20 mins

It’s a case of how many Vincent’s will win by at this stage as the Dublin club are totally dominant, Gavin Burke with the latest score.

Galway SHC final –  Gort 0-10 Portumna 0-7 – 38 mins

Quinn with Gort’s first score of the second half as they stem the Portumna tide.

Leinster SFC final – St. Vincent’s 1-5 Rhode 0-1 – 23 mins

The Offaly champions are finally on the scoreboard with a well-taken point from Niall McNamee.

Full-Time -

Corofin 0-9  Tir Chonaill Gaels 0-2

A late point from Tir Chonaill Gaels is far too little, far too late and the Galway champions Corofin have advanced to the All-Ireland semi-finals.

Galway SHC final –  Gort 0-11 Portumna 0-8 – 41 mins

Joe Canning gives away a free and Quinn converts against to stretch Gort’s lead to four but a free of his own from Canning makes it a one-goal game again.

Galway SHC final –  Gort 0-11 Portumna 0-9 – 43 mins

Another Canning free makes it a two-point game.

Leinster SFC final – St. Vincent’s 1-5 Rhode 0-2 – 29 mins

Another score for Rhode – who have hit seven wides - Niall Darby with the point.

Half-time -

Leinster SFC final – St. Vincent’s 1-5 Rhode 0-2

It’s been pretty much one-way traffic in the Leinster football final. Rhode need a massive second half to come back here as the All-Ireland champions are creating goal-scoring opportunities at will.

Galway SHC final –  Gort 0-11 Portumna 0-10 – 46 mins

Joe Canning with another score and we’ve a one point game in the Galway final.

Galway SHC final –  Gort 0-12 Portumna 0-10 – 53 mins

Gerry Quinn scores his sixth free of the afternoon and it’s a two point game with seven minutes remaining. Are the All-Ireland champions in real trouble?

Galway SHC final –  Gort 0-13 Portumna 0-10 – 56 mins

That’s seven frees for Gerry Quinn now.

GOAL! – Galway SHC final –  Gort 1-13 Portumna 1-10   – 57 mins

Out of nowhere, Portumna score a goal and level things up through Kevin Hayes but Gort go right down the other end to grab a goal of their own through Wayne Walsh. What a two minutes of hurling.

GOAL!  – Galway SHC final –  Gort 2-13 Portumna 1-10   – 60 mins

And that’s it, another Gort goal, this time through Albert Mullins makes it a six point game. Surely game over now?

Leinster SFC final – St. Vincent’s 1-5 Rhode 0-2

The second half is under way in Navan.

Full-Time -

Galway SHC final –  Gort 2-13 Portumna 1-10

Gort have won the Galway hurling title and the defending All-Ireland club SHC champions are out. Gort, who trailed just once in the game, are good value for their seventh county title.

Leinster SFC final – St. Vincent’s 1-7 Rhode 0-2 – 37 mins

The defending champions get the opening two scores of the second half in the Leinster final through Brendan Egan and Mossy Quinn.

RED CARD! – Leinster SFC final – St. Vincent’s 1-8 Rhode 0-2 – 39 mins

Rhode’s task has been made even hard with Pauric Sullivan seeing red for a clash with Diarmuid Connolly. The Vincent’s man picked up a yellow card for his troubles.

Down the other end, Mossy Quinn points again.

Leinster SFC final – St. Vincent’s 1-8 Rhode 0-3 – 45 mins

Conor McNamee gets Rhode’s first score of the second half but the Offaly champions need goals from here.

Leinster SFC final – St. Vincent’s 1-9 Rhode 0-4 – 47 mins

For the first time in the game, Rhode score back-to-back points, Niall Darby with their latest effort.

Down the other end, Connolly points a well taken effort.

Leinster SFC final – St. Vincent’s 1-10 Rhode 0-4 – 50 mins

Cormac Diamond’s effort makes it a nine point game and it looks like Vincent’s will defend their Leinster crown comfortably.

Leinster SFC final – St. Vincent’s 1-10 Rhode 0-5 – 53 mins

A fine point from Rhode’s Niall McNamee brings the gap back to eight.

Leinster SFC final – St. Vincent’s 1-10 Rhode 0-6 – 57 mins

Anton Sullivan with Rhode’s sixth point of the day as we enter the closing stages of the Leinster decider.

Leinster SFC final – St. Vincent’s 1-12 Rhode 0-6 – 60 mins

Shane Carthy and Mossy Quinn kick bonus scores for Vincent’s as we enter injury time.

Full-Time -

Leinster SFC final – St. Vincent’s 1-12 Rhode 0-6

And that’s it. The long whistle has gone and Vincent’s have defended their Leinster title in the most straightforward of manners. Rhode never looked threatening as they lost yet another provincial decider.

And that’s it from me.

Thanks as always for joining us.
