Connacht 13-13 Glasgow

Welcome to our Liveblog of Connacht’s Pro12 clash with Glasgow Warriors.

Connacht: Duffy; Vainikolo, Tonetti, Fa’afili, O’Halloran; O’Connor, O’Donohoe; Wilkinson, Flavin, Loughney, Swift, McCarthy; Muldoon, Grace, Naoupu

Replacements: Reynecke, Buckley, Maguire, Gannon, Kearney, Moore, Jarvis, Griffin.

Glasgow: Murchie; Seymour, Nathan, Morrison, Lemi; Jackson, Pyrgos; Grant, MacArthur, Welsh, Verbakel, Ryder, Harley, Fusaro, Wilson.

Replacements: Gillies, Reid, Hunter, Campbell, Weir, Dunbar, Shaw, Forrester.

Gavin Duffy leads his side on to the field. A dry, bright evening in Galway at the moment.

We’re underway through Niall O’Connor.

The opening five minutes have been scrappy with handling errors from both sides.

Glasgow are penalised in the scrum but Niall O’Connor misses his first kick at goals. The fly-half has the distance but is off target with his effort.

Duffy tries to release O’Halloran down the wing but the ball beats the winger to the sideline. Better from the home side, as the struggle to get the upper hand in the contest continues…

Duffy’s attempted clearance near his own line is well blocked down and Glasgow retain possession to exert some pressure at last.

Odd from Henry Pyrgos. Camped on Connacht’s try line, the scrum-half looks to kick and makes a complete mess of it. Hard to know if he was trying to cue someone in or go for a drop goal!

Another miss for O’Connor. Glasgow are pinged for failing to roll away and O’Connor opts to kick the penalty from just inside his own half. His effort falls just short of the crossbar though, so it’s another let off for the visitors.

Glasgow’s latest attack comes to naught as the Scottish outfit knock on in the ruck. Twenty-five minutes in and no score yet.

TRY GLASGOW: After such a tight struggle for the opening 25 minutes, Jon Welsh spots a gain the Connacht line and barges over underneath the posts for the opening score. Ruaridh Jackson converts and suddenly Connacht are behind 0-7.

Glasgow are standing firm at the moment. Apart from O’Connor’s two attempted kicks, Eric Elwood’s men haven’t looked like scoring at all…

PENALTY CONNACHT: Niall O’Connor gets Connacht on the score board in added time with a fine kick from out near the sideline.

HALF TIME: O’Connor scores right before the half-time whistle to at least get the hosts up and running. In truth, it’s been a drab first half with neither team getting their back lines into the game.

Back underway. Let’s hope for a much improved second half – from both sides.

Connacht finally string a few phases together but Glasgow eventually hack the ball clear from their 22.

Dave Moore is on for Paul O’Donohoe. Hopefully, he will be able to inject some pace into Connacht’s play.

PENALTY GLASGOW: Unfortunately for most of the crowd, the next vital score goes the way of Glasgow. The Connacht pack are penalised on what must be the Warriors’ first venture into the home side’s half since the break and Jackson adds the three points with little difficulty.

David Lemi attempts a drop kick for Glasgow from out near the sideline but his effort is well wide of its target. We’re seeing a little more from both teams now as we edge towards the hour mark.

If Connacht are to get anything from this match, it will surely be through O’Halloran. He combines with George Naoupu to break forward and the hosts earn a penalty when Tommy Seymour intentionally slows down the ball.

Connacht opt to go for the line and drive towards Glasgow’s tryline after retaining possession. However, despite a huge effort, they cannot reach the chalk and eventually settle for another penalty.

TRY CONNACHT: Connacht again go for the line, except when ball reaches O’Connor in front of the posts he kicks out wide to the waiting Duffy and O’Halloran. The ball is too high for the former but the winger gathers well and dives on to the tryline. O’Connor levels matters and it’s nothing more than the team in green deserve.

PENALTY GLASGOW: Discipline, discipline, discipline. Eoghan Grace coughs up a penalty almost right in front of the posts and Duncan Weir – on for Jackson – gets the Warriors back in front.

An incredible tackle from John Muldoon prevents a second Glasgow try - Peter Murchie the man almost over in the corner.

It’s all white ball with five minutes remaining on the clock.

Accidental obstruction, and another Connacht attack is halted in its tracks.

PENALTY CONNACHT: A massive scrum from Connacht sees the Warriors driven backwards and possession conceded. With the clock deep in added time, O’Connor kicks the penalty and secures a hard-fought draw for the home team.

FULL TIME: Another case of what might have been for Connacht. They never really showed their true potential this evening, O’Halloran’s try apart. O’Connor nailed his final kick to secure two points but also missed two penalty attempts early on. Replacement scrum-half Dave Moore was the player who made all the difference following his introduction.

That’s it for our coverage this evening. Thanks for sticking it out until the grandstand finish!
