Listen to Michael Ó Muircheartaigh's Christmas poem

He’s more used to the Sam Maguire Cup than rhyming couplets. But the GAA legend gave poetry a go this morning.

THIS YEAR WE were treated to Michael Ó Muircheartaigh’s wonderful match commentary for the last time.

The voice of the GAA had a Kerry accent for decades but as the curtain fell on another championship season so too his time in the gantry at last ended.

Tributes flooded in during September from listeners throughout the globe. And many noted the poetic flourish he brought to the spit-and-sawdust business of Gaelic games.

And this morning, fittingly, Ó Muircheartaigh recited a bespoke Christmas verse on John Murray’s RTÉ Radio show.
