In pictures: Kearney celebrates Lions call by sailing up a storm in Sydney

The fullback was the only Irish Lion let off the leash before Saturday’s big match.

ROB KEARNEY’S SECOND Lions Tour will become a playing reality on Saturday when he Warren Gatland deigns to throw him in against the NSW Waratahs from the replacements bench.

The Leinster and Ireland fullback missed the first four tour games after sustaining a minor hamstring tear that ruled out any strenuous exercise or sprinting. With Leigh Halfpenny goalkicking superbly and Stuart Hogg proving a mild revelation at fullback and outhalf, Kearney will be eager to make an impression off the bench.

He celebrated the news of his inclusion in the Lions squad for Saturday’s game by heading out for a sail on Sydney Harbour on the HSBC yacht. He was joined by Adam Jones, Tom Youngs and Mako Vunipola, who all start against the ‘Tahs, and fellow bench buddy Dan Lydiate.

Meanwhile, Lions teammates Mike Philips, Geoff Parling, Manu Tuilagi, Ben Youngs and Tom Croft were escorted on a steep climb/walk over Sydney Harbour Bridge. Upon reaching the top, and taking in the panoramic views, the harnessed players were asked to raise their arms and feel the stiff Australian breeze.
