LIMERICK CLAIMED AN important win over previously unbeaten Wexford in Division 1B of the Allianz hurling league this afternoon at the Gaelic Grounds.
The home side maintained their push for promotion and were indebted to a key first-half goal from Graeme Mulcahy along with accurate freetaking from Conor Allis. Mulcahy’s 8th minute goal helped Limerick to lead by 1-6 to 0-5 at the break.
But Wexford moved strongly back into contention after the interval when Paul Morris found the net and Rory Jacob landed a point to tie the teams at 1-7 apiece. A brace of points by Allis was responded to by a Diarmuid O’Keeffe point to leave the minimum between them.
However Limerick then strung together five points without reply to put daylight between the sides. That ensured they did enough to secure victory despite Rory Jacob grabbing a late goal in injury-time for Wexford.
