Like lightning: Bolt records fastest time of the year

The 25-year-old recorded a time of 9.82 seconds at the Kingston meet, as he prepares for the Olympics.

USAIN BOLT HAS started the year in blistering fashion with the fastest time of 2012 in the 100m at the Jamaica International Invitational.

The 25-year-old scorched the track in 9.82 seconds at the Kingston meet with Jamaica making it a one-two-three finish.

Michael Frater was second in 10.00 while Lerone Clarke took third a further three-hundredths of a second back.

It was Bolt’s first race this year over 100 metres ahead of trials next month for the Olympics, where he will aim to defend his 100m and 200m titles.

Bolt said he was in better shape than at the same time last year but admitted there was plenty of room for improvement.

“There were some mistakes in the race, my coach (Glen Mills) pointed them out and we will be fixing them in training,” Bolt said.

The Olympic and World champion improved on the year’s previous best time of 9.90s clocked by Yohan Blake on April 14.
