Welsh rugby international apologises for 'blacking up' as Wilfried Bony

Liam Williams initially refused to apologise.

WELSH RUGBY INTERNATIONAL Liam Williams has apologised for posting a picture of himself ‘blacked up’ as Swansea City player Wilfriend Bony.

The Scarlets fullback appeared as Bony alongside some team-mates dressed a parrots and gladiators.

Williams initially refused to apologise insisting he did not have “a racist bone in his body” and that Bony himself was “okay with it.”

However, after Show Racism The Red Card – an organisation Williams has worked with before – criticised his actions, the player removed the image and issued an apology:

A statement from his club said:

“Scarlets is fully committed to eradicating discrimination and promoting equality for both staff and our customers by treating people fairly and according to their needs.

“Scarlets is proud of its record in promoting equality and non-discriminatory behavior amongst all our employees and this applies to the way we behave to members of the public and to other employees.”
