Snapshot: You don't see the Liam MacCarthy on Shop Street every day

The Sam Maguire was last seen in a snug in Neachtain’s.

IF JOE CANNING and his Galway colleagues have their way, the Liam MacCarthy cup might well reside west of the Shannon come September.

But whatever happens between now and the end of this most open of hurling summers, the famous old trophy paid a visit to the City of the Tribes today.

The GAA launched the All-Ireland senior hurling championship in Galway earlier. Paul Browne (Limerick), Lorcan McLoughlin (Cork), John Conlon (Clare), Niall Corcoran (Dublin) and Fergal Moore (Galway) stopped (pedestrian) traffic on Shop Street.
