Shoddy workmanship Ted: New $1.3billion stadium has pitch relaid twice in a week

We hope someone in the 49ers’ organisation has kept the receipt.

WELL THIS IS embarrassing.

For the second time in a less than a week, the San Francisco 49ers are having to relay the pitch at their brand new, $1.3billion stadium.

Just days after the 49ers lost their preseason home opener against Denver at Levi’s Stadium, head coach Jim Harbaugh cancelled a practise at the ground because of dangerous conditions. On Thursday, the playing surface was replaced.

However, the field failed to hold up during their win over the Chargers on Sunday night and is being dug up and replaced again with a new surface expected to be in place in advance of their first regular season home game on September 14.

According to the franchise, the pitch used for the San Diego game was always supposed to be a temporary solution but when you spend so much money on a new stadium, you would hope that problems with the playing surface would be the least of your worries.
