Leona Maguire and Stephanie Meadow miss the cut at US Open

Bogeys and double-bogeys killed off their chances of progressing to the weekend.

LEONA MAGUIRE AND Stephanie Meadow have both bowed out of the US Open, after failing to make the cut in New Jersey.

Maguire’s second round six-over 78 left her seven shots off the weekend cut, while Meadow, who came third in this tournament three years ago, carded a one-over 73 to finish on six-over.

22-year-old Maguire got off to a strong start with birdies over the first two holes, but the world amateur number one followed that up with three bogeys and a double-bogey before the turn.

Further damage was to come on the back nine, as she added two more double-bogeys on the 13th and 14th holes before signing off.

Meadow, who started her second round on the 10th, also began brightly with a birdie on the second hole. But she also hit a bogey and double-bogey further on in the round to see her follow Maguire out of the tournament.

Shanshan Feng of China is currently on the top of the leader board on eight-under overall.
