Olympics-bound Maguire shows all her Major talent as she chases the leaders at the Open

The 21-year-old continues to shine on the biggest stage.

LEONA MAGUIRE IS producing the standout Major performance by an Irish golfer this week as she charged up the leaderboard at the Ricoh British Open this afternoon.

The Cavan amateur carded a four-under par round of 68 on Saturday as she continues her pursuit of the leaders at Woburn.

Maguire, who recorded five birdies during her sparkling third round, lies in a tie for tenth and is currently eight shots off the lead held by Thailand’s Ariya Jutanugarn on 15-under par.

Sitting on seven-under par, the 21-year-old is six strokes ahead of the next best amateur, and Curtis Cup team-mate, Bronte Law.

With her twin sister Lisa on the bag this week, Maguire birdied the first and it set the tone for what was to follow as she backed up rounds of 71 and 70 to sit pretty heading into Sunday.

After picking up two shots before the turn, and a further one on 10, the only blemish of Maguire’s round came at the par-four 13th.

However, she demonstrated composure and tenacity to bounce back immediately and card two birdies down the home straight to sign for an impressive 68.
