ENGLISH-BORN SPRINTER Leon Reid has been named in Ireland’s squad for the European Athletics Championships in Berlin, pending his international transfer’s clearance from the IAAF.
Reid, who holds an Irish passport, won both the 100m and 200m titles at the National Track and Field Championships in Santry over the weekend.
The 24-year-old re-submitted his paperwork after the IAAF lifted their ban on international transfers last week.
Reid, who was born in Bath but whose mother hails from Belfast, represented Team GB at junior and underage level and also won 200m bronze for Northern Ireland at the Commonwealth Games earlier this year.
He won the men’s 200m in Santry in a time of 20.74 seconds on Saturday, before completing the national sprint double on Sunday with 100m victory in a time of 10.42 seconds.
