Leitrim take Connacht FBD League crown with victory over Sligo

It was a first FBD crown for Leitrim with a battling effort at Markievicz Park.

LEITRIM CLAIMED A famous victory in Markievicz Park this afternoon, taking the Connacht FBD League crown for the first time on a scoreline of 0-8 to 0-5.

Sligo trailed at the break — 0-5 to 0-2 — after points from Ray Cox, Emlyn Mulligan and Danny Beck put Leitrim in the driving seat.

Adrian Marren and Brian Egan scored after the interval to bring the Yeats County to within a couple of points of the visitors again but ultimately Brian McDonald pointed in added time to see Leitrim take the title by three points.

Leitrim will face  New York in the overall FBD decider later in the year.
