Rhode face Moorefield in the other semi-final after both came through their respective tests against Navan O’Mahony’s and Rathnew earlier today.
Dessie Dolan’s late point was all that separated Garrycastle and Emmet Óg in Mullingar. The Longford men took an early lead through Paddy Thompson’s goal but the sides were level at the break, 0-7 to 1-4.
A goal from Garrycastle defender Mark McCallon midway through the second half put them two points ahead, 1-9 to 1-7, but Emmet Óg didn’t relent and were only denied by the veteran Dolan in the final minutes.
In Tullamore, two first-half goals from Glen O’Connell helped Rhode to a 4-10 to 0-13 win against Navan O’Mahony’s.
That nine-point margin did the Meath men a slight disservice. Despite O’Connell’s double, the second of which came from the penalty spot, they only trailed by a point at the break, 2-3 to 0-8, and then levelled the match with the opening score of the second half.
The game was still in the balance as it entered the final quarter before Rhode made it safe at the death with late goals from Niall McNamee and Brian Darby.
They now face Kildare champions Moorefield who overpowered Rathnew in the second half in Aughrim to run out four-point winners, 0-17 to 2-7.
