There are two mouth-watering clashes in the first round of the Leinster Schools Senior Cup

Blackrock’s three in-a-row bid starts off against Terenure.

IF BLACKROCK WIN their third straight Leinster Schools Senior Cup this season, nobody will be able to say they didn’t deserve it. The back-to-back champions were draw to play arch-rivals Terenure in the opening round to begin yet another defence of the title they have won 68 times.

In another marquee match-up, Holy Ghost schools St Mary’s and St Michael’s will face each other in round one.

Leinster’s Cian Healy was one of four players along with Luke McGrath, Brendan Macken and Darragh Fanning who conducted the draw, and he will be a popular man at his alma mater after Belvedere College avoided the traditional powerhouses in the opening round.

Macken might get the opposite reception at his five year reunion, as he was the man who who paired his old team together with their foe from D6W.

The Leinster Senior Cup begins the week of 25 January while the Junior Cup, where Blackrock are also going for a three in-a-row, starts the week of 1 February.
