Easterby and Scarlets 'looking to lay down a marker' against Leinster

The former Irish flanker is eager to build on his side’s top four finish from last season.

AS BEST OF the rest last season, Simon Easterby’s Scarlets earned a spot in the RaboDirect Pro12 semi finals.

The Welsh side were beaten 28-17 by Ulster and Easterby was left fuming by a TMO decision to award Tom Court a dubious try. He bitterly mused on getting in “impartial” referees for the knock-out stages and declared their defeat would make his side hungrier for the next season.

Next season is now five days away and the hunger, Easterby insists, is insatiable. The former Irish flanker is without Lions centre Jonathan Davies — the man who replaced Brian O’Driscoll for the Third Test against Australia — and new signing John Barclay for Scarlets’ league opener against Leinster. Nonetheless, the head coach is eager ‘to lay down a marker’ against the reigning Pro12 champions.
