A 54th Leinster hurling crown for St Kieran's as they see off Kilkenny CBS

A four-point win for St Kieran’s today in Nowlan Park.

St Kieran’s College 2-12
Kilkenny CBS 1-11

ST KIERAN’S ARE the kings of colleges hurling again in Leinster after they fashioned a four-point win over local rivals Kilkenny CBS in Nowlan Park this afternoon.

The Top Oil Leinster SAHC colleges final swung in St Kieran’s direction thanks to a strong closing performance as they retained the title they won last year.

It was the fifth time in seven years that these two schools contested this decider and St Kieran’s avenged their 2013 and 2014 final defeats at the hands of Kilkenny CBS.

The teams were level at 1-3 to 0-6 at the break with Adrian Mullen, who finished with 1-9 to his name, hitting the net for St Kieran’s.

A second goal arrived after the interval for St Kieran’s courtesy of Martin Keoghan as they went in front 2-6 to 0-9 by the 43rd minute.

It was no fault of the excellent Sean Bolger that Kilkenny CBS fell behind as his accuracy from frees saw him fire over 0-11.

A late Marc Drennan goal gave Kilkenny CBS hope but St Kieran’s closed out the game successfully.

Scorers for St Kieran’s: Adrian Mullen 1-9 (0-7f); Martin Keoghan 1-0; Edmond Delaney, Joe Cuddihy and Sean Carey 0-1 each.

Scorers for Kilkenny CBS: Sean Bolger 0-11 (0-10f) Marc Drennan 1-0.
