Leinster begin talent search: only tall players need apply!

Anyone over 6’5″ is being encouraged to apply to take part in Leinster’s screening day for prospective second-row forwards. If successful, the idea could be extended to other positions.

IN A BID to boost their second row options, Leinster Rugby have embarked on a recruitment drive specifically aimed at bringing new locks into the club.

Entitled Route 6’6″, the initiative will see a special screening day organised on Saturday, October 8th (9.30am – 12.30pm) where men between the ages of 17 and 23 and who are over 6’5″ tall can apply to become involved – regardless of whether they have any experience of playing the sport or not.

Leinster Academy coach Colin McEntee and former Ireland international and Leinster ‘A’ manager Malcolm O’Kelly are involved, along with some of the province’s other coaching and fitness staff. Should the drive be successive, further position-specific recruitment days could happen in the future.

“This initiative is open to those who have never played rugby before as well as to those who may have given up the game for one reason or another,” McEntee explained.

“It’s also open to people who currently compete in an alternative sport and who have always wanted to play rugby. In essence, if there is a will to learn, we have the technical ability to help them.”

Anyone interested needs to apply in advance, with more details available here.
